The Battle Begins

We know have the opportunity to make progress on key issues for working families. The Employee Free Choice Act is urgently needed to restore the right of workers to organize and bargain collectively free from employer intimidation and coercion. This act would require employers to recognize a union upon verification that a majority of employees have signed authorization cards as well as provide for mediation and arbitration for a first contract and increase penalties for employer violations of the National Labor Relations Act.

A majority of Representatives and Senators support this legislation, and President Obama has said that he will sign it into law. But the business community and their right wing allies are going to spend millioins to block this bill. Thus we nee to mount a major grass roots campaign to get the House and Senate to approve this legislation.
